Rohu is very common freshwater fish eaten in Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and India, it is a large omnivore and extensively used in aquaculture, a large silver-colored fish which can reach maximum weight of 45 kg (99 lb) and maximum length of 2 m (6.6 ft). Rohu is an excellent source of high quality protein and omega 3 fatty acids, a good source of vitamin C, vitamin D and niacin, is also listed among fishes with low level of mercury.
The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least two times per week as part of a healthy diet.
