100% Edible coconut oil for reduced risk of heart disease and healthy hair

Coconut oil has a long history in Asia, particularly in tropical regions where the plant is abundant, where it has been used for cooking –  it is the oil of choice in Sri Lankan cuisine, it also plays a prominent role in the cuisines of Thailand and Kerala (a state on India’s tropical Malabar Coast).

Coconut oil constitutes seven percent of the total export income of the Philippines, the world’s largest exporter of the product.

A study conducted at University College Hospital in Ibadan, Nigeria, published in the Journal of Medicinal Food found that coconut oil was effective in killing some strains of Candida, which cause the condition candidiasis in humans; the authors recommended that coconut oil be used in the treatment of fungal infections.

Regular coconut oil is made from dried coconut kernel called ‘copra’, which is pressed, extracted oil is refined, decolourized and bleached – this process makes it suitable for consumption but extracts all the natural values; virgin coconut oil is extracted from the fresh milk of coconut using cold process which maintains all the natural constituents, aroma, and antioxidants of the oil.

Parachute and Nihar Naturals brands make it the market leader in the Indian branded coconut oil market, with an overall volume market share of around 59% (for year ending March 31,2019).

Coconut oil is a highly saturated oil (about 90%), and 60% of its total fatty acid composition are medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA); Parachute coconut oil is having high MCFA and medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) which freeze at temperature below 21 Deg C.

Coconut oil contains about 40% lauric acid, a rare saturated fat; studies show that lauric acid increases the blood levels of cholesterol, but this is mostly due to an increase in cholesterol bound to high-density lipoproteins (HDL) – an increase in HDL cholesterol, relative to total cholesterol, has been associated with a reduced risk of heart disease.

Coconut oil is often said to be the best oil to use on your hair to reduce protein loss and keep it looking healthy.
