Though I am a meat eater yet consuming soy meat is no longer a meat substitute for me, because cooking it many times from past 2 years, for 2 to 3 times in a month, this food product has become a must have for me.
This soy meat gravy is made with minimum number of ingredients yet those ingredients make this gravy complete in all necessary aspects.
Soy meat is the main ingredient in this recipe, soy meat is a defatted soy flour product, a by-product of extracting soybean oil. Soy meat has rich nutritional content of proteins and iron, with appreciable nutritional content of calcium, though it is considered a low cost meat substitute, its nutritional content is valuable. The texture of soy meat after it is cooked makes it spongy to absorb the flavours of the sauce it is combined with, making consuming this food product a delicious and nutritious experience.
In this recipe, to create sauce for the soy meat I have used 6 ingredients:
- 2 of which are basic ingredients: Vegetable Oil and Salt
- Other 2 are necessary ingredients (spice powders): Turmeric powder is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties; and Asafoetida powder used as a digestive aid
- A spicy ingredient: Malvani Garam Masala – this roasted powder mix of spices is less peppery and more zesty than the regular garam masala (Recipes of Non-Vegetarian Food Enriched with Malvani Garam Masala)
- For sauce, for flavour and added nutrients: Tomatoes – a good source of vitamin C
