Celebrating New Year with Til/Sesame Ladoo

Makar Sankranti is a Hindu festival that celebrates the solar cycle, it marks the first day of the sun transit into Makara (Capricorn), marking the end of the month with the winter solstice and the start of longer days. This festival almost always falls on the same Gregorian date every year (January 14 or 15), exactly 14 to 15 days after New Year; til/sesame ladoo or tilgul, a candy made of sesame seeds and jaggery is eaten on this day, this candy is easily available during New Year in Indian grocery stores at relatively cheap price so I do not take the trouble of making them at home; tilgul is one of my favourite candies, a healthy option to indulge in sweets during winter season because sesame seeds have high concentration of nutrients.

WISHING YOU A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2020

Happy Makar Sankranti [तिळगुळ घ्या गोड गोड बोला 🌹]
