
Hing/Asafoetida Powder: This spice is used as a digestive aid, in food as a condiment, and in pickling. It plays a critical flavoring role in North Indian vegetarian cuisine by acting as an umami enhancer.
I normally include 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of asafoetida powder in a food recipe which requires use of this spice; when I add asafoetida powder in a recipe, I opt out of using garlic in that food recipe; yes, apart from being a food flavouring agent, asafoetida powder is an effective digestive aid too.
