Shark meat has been traded and has been a significant source of protein for centuries, its consumption may occur primarily in coastal areas. Shark meat is common and popular in Asia, shark meat is consumed regularly in Scandinavia, Japan, parts of India, parts of Canada, Sri Lanka, areas of Africa and Mexico; other countries include Korea, Australia, Iceland and European countries.
In this flavourful, nutritious fish curry for shark meat, I have used dried kokum rinds (Malabar tamarind/Garcinia indica), the rind of the fruit is a good source of hydroxycitric acid.

Easy Seafood Recipe of Nutritious Fish Curry of Shark Meat:
Quantity of fish: small pieces of 2 small sharks
- Marinate the shark meat pieces in ½ tsp. of turmeric powder for at least 5-10 minutes
- For fish curry paste: Grind mince of fresh coconut meat from half of a small coconut shell, slices of 1 medium onion, slices of 1 small tomato, 4 garlic cloves, ½ tsp. of kashmiri chilli podwer (kashmiri chilli powder gives food soft red colour with diminutive amount of pungency – you can also opt to use any other chilli powder according to preference of flavour), ¼ tsp. of methi/fenugreek seeds; grind these ingredients using dried kokum (Malabar tamarind/Garcinia indica) juice – boil about 8 dried kokum rinds in 2 glasses of water, after the water cools down squeeze the kukum rinds in it, and strain the juice.
- Saute the curry paste in adequate quantity of warm, any mild-flavour vegetable oil, until it condenses to a reasonable extent; smidgen the mix with salt – according to preference of flavour, blend the curry paste with kokum juice – according to the consistency of curry you prefer, add the fish pieces to the warm curry, blend the mix with a handful of finely sliced pieces of curry leaves, cook the curry for about 10 minutes in low heat.
